PHP-FIG代表了社区的一个横截面，随着时间的推移，这个横截面已经增加，包括了更广泛的人员和项目选择.2009年，php|tek的许多框架开发人员启动了该小组。从那时起，许多其他成员提出申请并被投票通过，使小组的规模从最初的5人增加到20多人最初，项目严格来说是框架，但很快人们发现CMS、应用程序、包开发人员等也有很多需要添加的内容。这个想法是为了获得生态系统的横截面，而不仅仅是一组特定的开发人员。让实现者与创建包的人和使用框架开发系统的人一起工作同样重要。
